Another market
3*
Having travelled some of SE Asia already, this was just another market to tick off. In comparison to markets such as the Ladies Market in Hong Kong, this was at best average. Of course if you're just visiting HCMC alone then I'd say it's worth going for the experience, but if you've visited other markets then you'll find that Ben Thanh is even more-so crowded and overpriced than many.
There was hardly room to move between stalls and everyone is very pushy with trying to get sales; don't expect to be able to browse anything peacefully for more than two seconds. And as aforementioned, prices were too high in my opinion, even with haggling, items such as generic key rings would start at 150K VND for a single one?! I could get a key ring cheaper in central London... Even after haggling, many sellers would only go so far as about 50K VND; in perspective, I got the same key ring as the above prices quoted for 20K VND away from the market (from a street stall).
In conclusion, go if you haven't experienced the Asian markets, but if you're well traveled then don't expect anything too special.
