An honest review
1*
After seeing many positive reviews and 5*'s, my boyfriend and I decided to stay here for 1 week, which we regret. We don't usually post 1* reviews, in fact this is our first for that matter.
"Managed by 2 energetic Australians" - we never saw any Australian managers in our week stay here? Maybe they just own it, who knows?!
"Immaculate rooms and brand new bathrooms" - this is just a complete LIE. 1. The shower in our room was falling out of the wall and had been taped together and had very poor water pressure. The shower also had cracked tiles and looked very old (I have added photos to the review).
2. The windows in our room leaked when it rained and there were drip marks on the wall. You could also hear everything outside which resulted in numerous poor nights sleep.
3. The headboard of the bed was also covered in chip marks and was detaching from the wall.
4. A stained mattress was left right by our hotel room door for the whole stay (see photo).
5. Our room also did not have a safe to put valuable items in despite being advertised on countless booking websites as having an 'in-room safe'.
6. TV quality was terrible with a fuzzy, almost black and white screen on every channel.
When we arrived at the hotel the man on reception checked us in by taking photos of our passports on his phone... which was very unprofessional in my opinion.
We then were escorted to our room which was large and had good aircon. However, our toilet was blocked with tissue and God knows what before we had used it which was disgusting and we weren't given any hand towels/flannels so 10 minutes into our stay we had to ask someone to unblock our toilet and give us some towels so we could wash our hands.
Then the next day we went out and left our 'please make up room' sign out from 10am-4pm to return and find they hadn't actually done it, so I awkwardly had to ask them to do it and sit in the room whilst they did it.
This is just basic hygiene and cleaning standards which clearly this place lacks and having to ask for basic things to be done is awkward and annoying.
The breakfast is included in the stay which is good, but it really isn't anything special and the kitchen hygiene standards are questionable. The coffee is awful.
To finally round up our experience of Rendezvous Hotel, we asked a receptionist if she could book us a hotel transfer to the airport for 2 days time which she said she would do. Fortunately, our lack of faith in this place paid off, as we checked it was booked the night before we left and what a surprise it was NOT booked!
This could have completely ruined the next part of our trip if we hadn't checked and just shows the hotel is incompetent in providing any service. The only positive is that the airport transfer was reasonably priced and the car was nice, although the quoted $15 (there) and $12 (back) became a total of $33 on checkout... go figure.
This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and I was very excited to leave at the end of our stay. I really question where all of these great reviews are coming from, but after staying in Hanoi it became clear that many restaurants and tours etc. pressure you to give good reviews, to be fair the hotel did not ask us for a review in this instance but we are still surprised by just how many five stars many of these businesses receive. Be warned and hopefully this review shows you the hotel description is a total lie. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone, even if staying for a night, as the location was about one of the few positives.
We don't expect a positive response from the establishment, but we had to be honest for other travelers, and hopefully it'll help the hotel itself to improve.
