No fountain show
3*

I don't fully see the appeal of the square, though that may be biased as we went on a damp, cold autumn day. It is a large open space nestled in the heart of the CBD, with nice water features and music, and certainly no shortage of eateries. It is nice to visit and I've heard that some in Chengdu consider it a 'must-do', however in my opinion it is no more than a short part-day filling activity. We heard they do a water fountain show also, however this did not commence at the scheduled time so I can only assume, like in Xi'an this year, that it may have ceased for the winter.

Busy and Fun
4*

Jinli street is packed with cafes, food outlets, restaurants and stools selling touristy market goods/souvenirs.

Getting there via metro:

1. Take line 3 to Gaoshengqiao and go through exit D.

2. Cross the road and make sure you turn RIGHT.

3. Take the first left after passing Wohou Shrine and you'll arrive at Jinli Street.

Pros:

1. The variety of street foods to try are applicable to both hesitant and adventurous travellers; you could buy spring rolls, noodles, bubble tea etc., or opt for brains and tentacles!

2. The food is also reasonably priced ranging from 10-25RMB roughly.

3. The narrow streets and small stream within it are aesthetically pleasing.

4. You get a real experience of Sichuan cuisine and street market.

5. There is plenty to keep you busy and entertained.

Cons:

1. It is EXTREMELY busy, so be aware of that if you're not keen on crowding/queuing.

2. Language barrier (which seems common in Chengdu anyway) makes it a bit more challenging to communicate, but is part of the experience :)

Overall a fun place to visit if you're staying in Chengdu.

People's Park - Green and Vibrant
5*

Getting to People's Park is really easy via the metro - take line 2 and get off at People's Park station which exits into the west entrance of the park.

Pros:

1. A really good way to see and experience local culture in Chengdu - locals sit together playing cards, doing Tai Chi, dancing, karaoke, relaxing at tea houses, hiring boats on the lake and enjoying the park surroundings.

2. It's nice to have a green escape in a built up city which is easy to get to.

3. There are signs in chinese and English which explain the history of the park which is interesting to read and to learn more about the area.

4. There is plenty to do and see to keep you entertained!

Con:

1. If you're looking for a quiet and peaceful park I wouldn't say this is the place, it's beautiful but busy and full of fun activities.

Overall it's a lovely place to visit and enjoy the local culture, I would highly recommend it!
