Better than Air Asia [no X] Berhad
3*

We were forced to travel with Air Asia again after a planned route by bus from KL to Singapore became impractical due to most bus services becoming fully booked (we were leaving on December 30th so perhaps we should have booked further in advance). Anyhow, we did not really want to travel with Air Asia again (see my other reviews) but it was one of the FAR lower cost airlines, even when adding baggage as well. Thankfully we had a better experience on this airline; the plane was larger (3 rows across) and myself and my partner were allocated seats next to one another which AirAsia usually try to avoid doing… There was actually decent legroom on this service and check in and boarding was prompt; online check in aided this process. If I recall correctly, they provide self-check-in facilities at KLIA2 for AirAsia. The plane departed relatively on time and landed on time into Singapore. Service on board was fine; what you would expect from a budget airline really.

Cultural and informative
4*

The national mosque has very impressive architecture and cultural significance. There were a number of people inside the mosque who were happy to answer any questions about the mosque or the Muslim faith which was educative and also nice to speak to people who are passionate about Malaysia and Islam.

They also provide free gowns for visitors to use if you aren't appropriately dressed which was great, so you don't need to wear long clothes all day in the heat! (Shorts, short skirts, bare shoulders and tight clothing are not allowed in the mosque). They also have places to store your shoes outside the mosque.

It is free to visit, but there are only certain hours during the day which are open to visitors. I believe it is open 9-12pm and 3-4pm but it would be best to check online before you go as it may differ depending on weekdays/holidays etc.

The mosque is close to tourist attractions such as the butterfly park, Islamic art museum and planetarium so it's easy to visit if those places are on your itinerary too.

Overall, I would recommend visiting the mosque as it is very impressive and it is a nice way to learn a bit more about Muslim culture in Malaysia.

Best market in SE Asia
4*

Per the title, I had a very positive experience with Petaling Street, having visited many markets already on our travels around SE Asia. My main justification for this report was the fantastic pricing of products (after haggling of course) that out-shone places like Pearl Market in Beijing where prices were a lot higher for identical products. For instance, a good quality fake watch on this street was roughly £8-12, whereas in China they would still be looking for no less than £30-40. The layout is also simple to follow; however, one drawback is it can become very crowded, and very, very hot! The sellers were also not over-assertive, they try to grab your attention but do not literally ‘grab’ you as happened at other markets in Vietnam and Thailand. We did not plan on buying any products during our trip to SE Asia in order to save money for our later travels in Australia, U.S.A and Canada, however the prices were so good that we bought about 4-5 different items which are still all functioning as of the date of this post. If you want to explore a variety of merchandise, and buy a few products then I certainly recommend this market.
