The trams make Melbourne a very easy city to navigate. There is a free tram zone within the city centre limits; although not huge, it is very helpful for hopping on and off, and of course it is free which is excellent. Anywhere further, the fares are reasonable and the trams can transport you a fair distance (e.g. we took the number 16 tram all the way to St Kilda beach). Most people purchase a Myki card to tap on and off of the tram network, however we had the benefit of having modern Android phones as Yarra now supports Google Pay, therefore we did not have to pay any money towards a physical Myki card, we just tapped our phones on and off to pay at the same fare rate as with an adult Myki card.

Flying with Emirates was certainly not the worst flying experience or airline I have had, however I expected more from such a reputable company as this one. Our 7 hour flight on a Boeing 777-300 from Singapore to Melbourne was at an okay time; departed at 13:55 and landed at 00:20, although there was a slight delay with take off. Check in was good, complimented by online check in and then self bag drop off. Boarding was efficient as well. The seats on the aircraft were slightly dated and the leg room was at best, average. The meals were also mediocre and the service overall was not that good; they only offered drinks once, compared to airlines like British Airways where they make it clear that drinks are complimentary and unlimited and you can request them whenever. The inflight entertainment was decent and they even had cameras mounted outside of the plane that you could observe. We arrived at our destination on time and proceeded to get our bags in a timely manner. I would fly with this airline again, but I was disappointed that it didn't live up to all the hype that Emirates seems to get as a carrier.

Transport - Skybus (Melbourne) Review

I purchased return tickets online at the airport I was departing prior to arriving in Melbourne. The app was offering a deal of $35 AUD per person, so the total was $70 AUD. I got two barcodes on my phone (one for each person (return)). We turned up at the departure point, which was almost right outside our arrival hall, with 1 minute to spare before next bus and the bus was on time. The driver wasn't the friendliest but it was nearly 01:00 I suppose. He drove very fast, maybe to fast, but we did get to central Melbourne very quickly, in probably around 20 minutes. In general Melbourne city centre is very safe so we just walked to our hotel from the drop off at Southern Cross Station. The journey back was just as quick and easy. If you're travelling to central then whatever time of day this is probably the cheapest and one of the most convenient options available.
