Doesn't disappoint
4*

We had a great 4 night stay at the Sleep Inn.

Firstly, they have a free shuttle from the airport to the hotel which was excellent - just call once you're at the airport. Upon check-in we were greeted warmly and able to get a key for our room within minutes; no security deposit. The interior of the hotel was modern and our room was large. Before describing the rooms I would also mention that there are several other facilities like a gym and vending & ice machines which is good.

The room was spacious, as mentioned, and it was clean and cleaned well daily thereafter, the air-conditioning/heating was fine and the amenities were perfect for a short stay e.g. fridge and microwave. It was quiet at night which meant we could sleep easily. Furthermore, our booking included breakfast (I don't know if this was standard) and breakfast was probably one of the best we had throughout our U.S. trip. The food was plentiful and varied and they had really cool Texan shaped waffles alongside coffee, tea and hot chocolate that you could help yourself to whenever.

The location of the hotel is probably the only thing that isn't great about it; if you are driving then its fine, but for us we found that public transport wasn't great. We had to get the local bus (there are a few routes that all connect to the tram) from nearby which is fine if you get there as it shows up, however the bus service is not the most reliable and one time we were left waiting over 45 minutes in the rain... Nearby there are also a few fast-food outlets which we ate at some nights and you can walk to these as the area isn't that busy but felt safe to walk around at night.

In conclusion I would certainly recommend the Sleep Inn if visiting Dallas; it is clean and comfortable, the staff are friendly, and the prices are very affordable!

Great on a cold day
4*

The Farmers Market was only a short walk outside the center of Dallas so it is conveniently located in terms of exploring downtown. We went in early February so there wasn't much happening outside but it was still lively on the inside. We wanted to taste some Texan beef so we purchased an amazing fresh burger from 'Beyond the Butcher' where they use fresh beef from the stand adjacent (you can pick the cut - see my photo) to make some delicious burgers! There was a range of other food outlets and also little stores to browse. I wouldn't spend too much time here in the winter, but I would definitely recommend a visit.

Proper American Experience
3*

We did like this bar; we chose it as we read about its history, and additionally there isn't a great deal of choice in the small but nice town. There were a few locals playing pool/snooker when we visited late on a Thursday night, and the atmosphere seemed friendly with good music and a chilled vibe. We only got a couple of drinks and were able to have a look around at the old theatre adjacent to the main bar, and the men's toilets which had an interesting design. It was a good experience and really makes you feel like you're properly in America; along old Route 66 and not in some modern day city bar. I reckon we got charged the 'tourist tax' as the drinks seemed more expensive than what they should be, but seeing as we only had 2 and otherwise it was a cool experience we didn't mind, and overall I would probably recommend a visit to see the place.
